Mander, Karel van
Karel van Mander is most recognized for his work as court painter of Christian IV of Denmark. Mander first came in contact with the Danish court through his father who was a painter and weaver of tapestries. After he executed some inital paintings for the king during the early 1630s he returned to Holland to study under Rembrandt, and after that went on a study trip to Italy wich was financed by the king. Karel van Mander returned to Denmark in 1638 and settled as court painter.
