Southen part of the R belongs to the stonepacking (see R1416, 1420 etc.). There the dark soil between the stones was taken away. Northern part consisted of a dark compact well-mixed soft soil with some gravel in it, which is probably still the plough-layer and looks the same as in R1417, 1418. etc. The surface remained is still the same character. The grey ash is probably intermingled with the yellow but has more bone and is disturbed (see R sheet for the rest of the description)
